The chief of the Old Westbury Police Department helped foil a one-man identity theft ring.

Officers arrested 35-year-old Joseph Rubino, of Queens, Tuesday afternoon. Old Westbury Police Chief Stuart Cameron says he spotted Rubino driving a stolen minivan on Glen Cove Road.

Investigators say they found fentanyl and methamphetamine inside the vehicle, as well as at least five driver's licenses, dozens of credit cards and a credit card skimming device.

Rubino is accused of using personal information from the dark web to order driver’s license duplicates from the DMV. From there, he took out lines of credit, purchased cellphones and sold the phones online. Police believe the suspect was stealing to fuel his drug habit.

Rubino faces multiple charges, including possession of stolen property, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and charges related to identity theft.
