Gov. Murphy allocates $100 million in grants to preserve, renovate NJ boardwalks

Gov. Phil Murphy on Sunday announced he’s awarded $100 million to 18 boardwalks in the state for preservation and needed renovations.

"Seven million dollars is going to go directly to the city and used for boardwalk upgrades. Hopefully you're going to see upgraded bathrooms and not these trailers at some point, and showers," said Asbury Park Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn.
The other $13 million awarded will be used to improve the wood planks on the boardwalk and convention hall.
"Any sort of structural integrity issues, that's the first thing that should be looked at and worked on, and our second priority is the Paramount Theatre, which closed in 2020. We've lost a ton of shows to other venues," Quinn said.
Quinn said residents can see some of the improvements as soon as this summer if all goes as planned.
