Hempstead man shot by officers files $5M lawsuit against village police, citing 'excessive force'
The lawsuit stems from a March 2023 incident in which police responded to a call about a violent man.

A Hempstead man who was shot by police filed a $5 million lawsuit against the village and it's police department.
According to the complaint, officers used "excessive force" when they arrested Patrick Alexis in March of 2023.
At the time, police said they responded to his apartment at 330 Washington St. for a call about a violent man. They said when officers tried to use a Taser on him, it didn't work.

In the March 2023 release, police said Alexis was shot because he moved toward the officers with a knife.
News 12 reached out to the Village of Hempstead for comment but had not heard back as of Sunday night.
