A decision has been made on a major proposal on the East End. A new zoning change will prevent the Enterprise Park Calverton, or “EPCAL,” from becoming a cargo jetport.
The decision comes after months of community opposition.
The change also prohibits commercial flights and flight instruction.
Fueling, tying down, parking and maintenance of planes are all allowed – as long as operations are connected to permitted use at the property.
The change was proposed after the Riverhead IDA denied financial aid to Calverton Aviation and Technology to develop a $40 million project.
