A Melville man pleaded guilty Tuesday to sexually abusing his 7-year-old niece.

Prosecutors tell News 12 the 42-year-old assaulted the girl while staying at his sister's house in August. The child told her mother the next day.

The suspect's name is being witheld to protect the child's identity.

The man was already registered as a sex offender for a 2008 attempted rape conviction
