Sayville family creates haunted house to raise money for Dravet Syndrome Foundation

There is one in Sayville, called “Carnevil Hell” that is raising money for a good cause.
When entering the Sayville property, you are immersed in a collection of carnival creeps and creatures amassed over the years by the Grimm family. They are proudly displayed on their front lawn.
Danelle Grimm, one of the co-creators said, “it’s crazy, but I love it.”
For co-creator Max Grimm, it’s all about the planning.
He added, “the creative process. There’s a bit of artistic expression involved and you are really working toward a show.”
The show is a part of a recent addition, the haunted walk, that’s been built on the side of the property. Guests can choose between two levels of terror – mild or scary. Scares are delivered by the entire family.
Danelle shared, “I think that’s what makes it so special that it’s not just random people don’t know, it’s the whole family. It’s something my kids can have memories as they get older.”
One of the kids - and scares - 10-year-old Ben Piehler said, “my family becomes more fun.”
The attractions are free but donations are being collected for the Dravet Syndrome Foundation, a cause that’s close to their hearts. Those visiting the home can donate via a cashbox or Venmo.
“I know children who are affected by epileptic seizures. There’s a little girl in our local schools who’s affected by it,” said Danelle.
You can also bring nonperishable food that will be donated to the Sayville Food Pantry. The family is hoping to help stock the shelves ahead of the holiday season.
The CarnEVIL Hell will operate on Oct. 31 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 48 Smith Ave. in Sayville.
