The mother of the 13-year-old bicyclist who was struck by a police cruiser in Shirley over the weekend is sharing memories of her son.

Anthony Stinson was a kind, team player who loved soccer, said his mom, Claudia Stinson.

Anthony, an eighth-grade student in the William Floyd School District, was struck Saturday night just up the block from his home.

Authorities said a Suffolk County police officer was headed to a call, going southbound on the William Floyd, when she went through a green light at Adobe Drive and struck Anthony, who was on his bike headed westbound.

His mother said she heard the noise from the accident and raced to the scene. The officer also struck a car sitting in traffic, a tree and two parked cars, Suffolk police said.

Stinson says Anthony's organs will be donated.

She said they once had a conversation about organ donation, and he had said it would be something he'd like to do.

Stinson said her son was compassionate and described him as the kid who would 'pass the ball.' He also liked being silly.

Amid her grief, Claudia has been overwhelmed by the kindness of the community. Dozens of people attended a vigil for Anthony Sunday night and his friends created a memorial outside of his home, which included a soccer ball and his favorite food.

Claudia said it gives her strength to see the number of hearts he's touched.
