In a statement read by his lawyer, Portillo admitted to being a member of the gang and using a bat to hit the girls.

Prosecutors said prior to their murders, Cuevas had had disputes with MS-13 members and associates and the gang vowed revenge.

On Sept. 13, 2016, prosecutors said gang members spotted the teens, and sought permission to kill them, which they received.

Portillo also said he was involved in two other murders and four attempted murders.

Portillo admitted he knew the things he did were wrong, according to a statement from his attorney.

He said, “I’m very sorry for my actions.”

He faces up to life in prison on racketeering charges and a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence on firearms charges.

Portillo will be sentenced in January.
