Two virtual headings were held Wednesday regarding National Grid's proposed April rate hike.
The plan would increase the cost of the average customer's bill by 21% or over $34 a month.

"Since the pandemic some people are still struggling," says Lauren Scott, of Uniondale. "And it's just difficult for everyone right now."
An economist says an increase is justified, but it does not need to be 21%.
"This monopoly, to ask for a 21% increase, is what economists call profit-push inflation," says Hofstra University Associate Professor Dr. Martin Melkonian. "Whereas on top of their costs, they throw on excessive increase in profits."
In a statement, the utility company says in part, "National Grid is determined to build a better energy future while keeping energy as affordable as possible. We look forward to an open and transparent public review process and encourage customers to share their feedback."
