Residents find ways to cool off amid heat advisory

Long Islanders are looking for ways to stay cool as dangerously high temperatures are set to stick around through Saturday.

Some residents headed to the Shipwreck Cover Spray Park at the Bay Shore Marina Thursday to beat the heat.

John Lawrence, of East Islip, took his 3-year-old grandson Taylor to the spray park.

"Usually take the grandkids out once a week, beautiful breeze," Lawrence says. "It's better than going to the beach."
The Bay Shore spray park is one of many pools on Long Island offering extended hours during the heat alert.

Some children decided to cool off at Rinx Hockey Camp in Bethpage.
Robert Knopf, of The Rinx Hockey School, says it's probably about 32 degrees on the ice and 40 to 50 degrees in the building.
Others stayed outside but enjoyed cool treats at Ralph's Italian Ices.
