HEAT ALERT: Towns extend pool, beach hours, open cooling centers amid heat advisory

The beach or a pool may be great place to beat the heat the next few days. 
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Nassau and Suffolk counties that will be in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday.
Watch his full forecast below:
Temps are expected to be in the 90s with feel-like temps climbing into the triple digits.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced that there will be extended hours at state parks, including at Jones Beach.
Experts say make sure to drink plenty of water and wear-light colored and loose fitted clothing.

To Find Cooling Centers in the state of New York
Town of North Hempstead Cooling Centers - Open until Friday:
  • The “Yes We Can” Community Center (141 Garden Street, Westbury) – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Clinton G. Martin Park – Community Building (1601 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park) – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Additionally, all Town’s pool will have extended hours from Wednesday, July 26 to Friday, July 28:
  • Manorhaven Beach Park Pool (158 Manorhaven Boulevard., Port Washington) – open until 9 p.m.
  • Clinton G. Martin Park Pool (1601 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park) – open until 9 p.m.
  • Whitney Pond Park Pool (Community Drive, Manhasset) – open until 8 p.m.
  • Martin “Bunky” Reid Park Pool (Broadway and Urban Ave, Westbury) – open until 7 p.m.
Smithtown Colling Center
  • Smithtown Senior Citizens Department to operate the Senior Citizens Center as a cooling center for residents
  • Smithtown beaches, the pool at Landing Country Club and Water Parks will extend hours until 7 p.m. through the heat advisory
Oyster Bay Town Cooling Centers
Cooling centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at:
  • Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center – 1001 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage
  • Town of Oyster Bay Hicksville Athletic Center – 167 South Broadway, Hicksville
Community pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at:
  • Marjorie Post Community Park – 451 Unqua Rd., Massapequa
  • Syosset-Woodbury Community Park – 7800 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury
  • Bethpage Community Park – 1001 Stewart Ave., Bethpage
  • Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park – 175 Washington Ave., Plainview
  • Tappen Beach – Shore Rd., Glenwood Landing
Town of Huntington Colling Centers
  • Cooling centers: The Dix Hills Ice Rink will be open from 12PM- 8PM and the Town of Huntington Senior Center (Flannagan Center) will be open until 4PM.  
  • Beaches: Crab Meadow, West Neck, Hobart, and Centerport Beaches will be open with stationed lifeguards until 8PM.
  • Pools: The Dix Hills pool will be open to the general public from 3PM - 8PM Thursday/Friday and 11AM - 8PM Saturday.
  • Spray Parks: Elwood and Manor Field Spray Parks will be open until 11 AM - 8PM. (Spray Parks Open at 10:00 AM for Children with Special Needs)
