AAA: Millions expected to travel for July Fourth weekend

Those traveling for the upcoming Fourth of July weekend should expect some crowded roads.
Over 50 million people nationwide will be getting at least 50 miles away from home, AAA says.
AAA Northeast spokesperson Robert Sinclair says 43 million people will be driving and 4 million are flying.
He says the surge in holiday travel is partly due to lower gas prices this year compared to 2022 and pent-up demand.
"We still have cabin fever from the pandemic," Sinclair says. "We broke out of it a little bit last year, but things are even more open now."
Some Long Islanders started hitting the road Wednesday to avoid the expected traffic.
Phill Stallone is driving from Ossining to Hampton Bays.
"Traffic is horrendous, especially getting over the bridges and out to at least this part of the Island," Stallone says.
To avoid congestion on the roadways, AAA says the best time to drive is before 12 p.m. on Thursday or Friday.
AAA says anyone driving over the holiday weekend should check their tires and batteries before hitting the road.
