A Bellport man was sentenced to over 12 years in prison for a fatal drunk driving crash.

Jordan Randolph had a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit when he sped away from police and slammed into another car at 137 mph on the William Floyd Parkway in 2020.

Jonathan Flores Maldonado, 27, was killed. His father, Victor Maldonado, had mixed emotions about the sentencing.

"It's a bittersweet situation because it doesn't replace Jonathan, but it does send a message to people that drive drunk," Victor Maldonado says. "It's a serious crime, you can hurt somebody."

News 12 is told Randolph had multiple prior DWI convictions, was arrested days before the crash, but was released without bail. At the time of the crash, authorities say Randolph did not have court ordered ignition interlock device on his car.

Victor Maldonado has since advocated for tighter bail reform laws.

Randolph was sentenced to 12 1/2 to 25 years in prison.
