'Kind Deeds' - Wantagh man helps Ukrainian soldiers get free prosthetics in NY
The doctors at a Staten Island facility work pro bono. It costs roughly $20,000 per soldier who gets a prosthetic.
A Wantagh man is supporting the people of Ukraine after going to the war-torn country to help.
Ed Hoey prepared food and delivered medical supplies to soldiers as the country was fighting off Russia's invasion.
"These people are taking freedom and democracy really seriously, and here in America we pay a lot of lip service to that, but this is it - this is what it looks like in real time," Hoey says. "I want to do my bit. I don't want to pay lip service to this. I'm going to go do my bit."
After seeing the physical devastation, his mission to help the Ukrainian people grew stronger.
Through an organization known as Kind Deeds, Hoey and the nonprofit are bringing injured Ukrainian soldiers who have lost limbs to New York and outfitting them with prosthetics.
"I mean, quite literally this amazing organization is getting these guys back on their feet," Hoey says.
