Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy found unresponsive inside a Brownsville apartment on Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a call at 230 Lott Ave., where they discovered the child unconscious and unresponsive, according to police.

Neighbors in the building described a disturbing scene, saying the toddler’s body appeared blue. Many say they are struggling to understand how something like this could happen.

Authorities are still working to determine the cause of death. The Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy to establish whether criminal activity was involved.

It currently remains unclear who contacted police or whether the child’s parents were home when the incident occurred.
