Police are searching for two people who followed a woman home from the mall, smashed her minivan and stole her new pocketbook.
According to police, the woman purchased a $3,100 Louis Vuitton bag at Saks Fifth Avenue at the Walt Whitman Shops on Jan. 28.
Police say the woman left the store and noticed a woman was recording her. When the woman got to her home in Deer Park, she immediately went inside to help with her handicapped child and left the purse in the car.
Moments later, police say a man was seen exiting a gold Honda Odyssey, smashed her car window, and took the purse. A woman drove around in the car and picked him up.
The incident is leaving some in the area concerned.
"Just the fact that it's going on in my town, it's devastating," says Huntington resident Margaret Murray. "And here she was going in to her home to take care of her disabled child and second she's in there, they had to have stalked her from the mall to Deer Park, it's frightening."
Anyone who recognizes the people in pictures released by police, or the car, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. A cash reward is being offered.
Police are warning other shoppers not to leave valuables unattended in their car. They also advise anyone who feels like they might be being watched to alert store security.
