Two teenagers were killed in a crash on the Southern State Parkway Tuesday morning after a vehicle struck an overpass.
Police say the one-car crash occurred at the Franklin Avenue overpass in Valley Stream at 12:35 a.m.
The victims were identified as Joseph Kelly, 19, and Justin Johnson, 19, of Laurelton.
According to police, the accident occurred when Kelly failed to negotiate a turn, mounted the right shoulder and struck the overpass. The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames and trapped both occupants inside.
Investigators told News 12 that speed seems to be the only contributing factor to the accident. They believe the teens were coming from a house party and on their way to a bowling alley.
News 12 spoke with the family of Justin Johnson. They said he loved to fix cars and was pursuing a degree in collision repair.
The Southern State Parkway was reopened after six hours.
State troopers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call 631-756-3300.
