Two teenage girls were shot outside a McDonald’s in Coney Island Tuesday afternoon, and the person responsible has not been caught.
This happened around 4:30 p.m. on Mermaid Avenue.
Police say a 16-year-old girl was hit in the upper leg and a 14-year-old girl was hit in the foot. Both were taken to NYU Langone Hospital and are expected to be OK.
A police source tells News 12 the girls were standing outside the location when gunshots rang out. That’s when they realized they had been hit.
The scene quickly turned chaotic.
One person who was nearby told News 12 they saw the moment it happened.
“We were in the car, the car turning here we saw the guy standing by the door there shooting. By the time we come out, everyone was just running out.”
Video from the scene shows a bullet hole in the glass and a heavy police presence as crews responded.
This McDonald’s has had issues in the past during the after-school rush. There’s still a sign on the door saying anyone under 18 needs a parent between 2 and 5 p.m. It’s not clear if anyone involved in this shooting was inside at the time or the age of the shooter.
Right now, investigators are still looking for the person who opened fire.
No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
