Two soccer players are recovering in Nassau University Medical Center?s burn unit Monday after being struck by lightning and say they are lucky to be alive.
Five soccer players were hit by lightning at Cantiague Park in Hicksville Sunday during a severe thunderstorm. Game spectators say the players ducked under the tree for shelter when it was hit by lightning.Elbert Guerra and Rene Castro say their survival is nothing short of a miracle. Castro has a hole in his foot where his doctors say a few thousands volts of electricity blew the sole off his shoe. He says he's nervous about undergoing surgery for his injuries and is ready to give up soccer.
The three other players were treated and released from the hospital after the incident.
