A 15-month-old baby is recovering in the hospital after suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. The baby was rescued from an apartment fire at 1040 Anderson Ave. on Wednesday night.
“I'd never seen a baby melting like that. Like I looked at her, and she was just like... Looked like her skin was just like ice cream,” said Enrique Nazario, a resident who said he helped rescue the baby from his neighbor’s burning, smoke-filled apartment.
According to the FDNY, the fire broke out just before 10 p.m., bringing about 60 firefighters and EMS workers to the scene. They were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes.
A car was also seen parked at a hydrant and the hose used by firefighters was on top of that car and stretched over to the home.
As the FDNY has reported many times, it is important drivers do not park in hydrant spots because in fires every second counts.
