Suffolk County police are searching for a person who shot and critically injured a man in Wyandanch on Wednesday night.
Investigators said the shooting happened in the backyard of a home on Patton Avenue just before 8:30 p.m.
The victim, only identified by police as a 20-year-old Westbury man, was able to drive in the surrounding area from the shooting scene to a Shell gas station at the corner of Straight Path and Little East Neck Road in West Babylon, where someone called 911.
It's still unclear how the victim got there, but according to a gas station employee, the victim was with someone else when they arrived.
“Somebody got shot a couple of blocks from here and the guy came onto gas station pump number one and he parked his car for 30 to 40 seconds and then the rescue department showed up," gas station employee Muhammad Tayyab said.
Dozens of officers responded to the gas station and taped it off for the investigation into the night.
Video from the scene showed detectives speaking with someone seated by the mini mart attached to the gas station and looking for evidence near the gas pump.
Suffolk County police said the victim was taken to a hospital, where he is in critical condition.
No arrests have been made so far.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
