Two Nassau residents are suing the county over its controversial new mask ban, claiming it violates the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The residents are looking for the court to declare the ban unconstitutional and order Nassau County to end it.
The ban that went into law earlier this month made it illegal to publicly wear a mask to hide one’s identity.
It is punishable by up to a $1,000 fine or a year in jail, according to authorities.
Officials say residents are allowed to wear masks for health reasons as well as religious and celebratory purposes.
However, critics of the ban say it will compromise the safety of residents.
News 12 is waiting to hear back from Nassau County for comment.
