2 Nassau residents accused of stealing thousands in Social Security benefits

If convicted, both are facing up to 15 years in prison.

Two people from Nassau County were arrested for allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in Social Security benefits.
Markus Effinger, of Uniondale, is accused of collecting supplemental income for years because of what he said was problems with his eyes. An investigation found that he was managing and working as a driver for a medical transportation company.
In a separate case, Gloria Sevilla, of Valley Stream, allegedly collected retirement benefits intended for her mother-in-law who died in 2015.
If convicted, both face up to 15 years in prison.
