Suffolk County Marine Bureau officers rescued two men after their boat caught fire in the waters off of Port Jefferson Sunday afternoon.
Police say a 911 caller reported the flaming boat about four miles north of Port Jefferson Harbor. Two marine officers located the 40-foot boat, and saw two men at the bow while flames and heavy smoke emanated from the stern.
The officers pulled the men, both of Stratford, Connecticut, to safety and they were treated for smoke inhalation. They have been identified as Cary Cieciuch, 50, and Kevin Totora, 42.
Firefighters from Port Jefferson, Mount Sinai and Setauket fire departments extinguished the flaming boat and it was towed to the harbor, police say.
