Two men were killed in an early morning car crash in Fort Salonga Tuesday.
The crash occurred on a sharp curve on Fort Salonga Road. Police say the driver of a Hyundai lost control and slammed into a tree around 4:30 a.m.
Police say the driver, Leland Acampora, of Hauppauge, and his rear seat passenger, Woody Zalman, of Commack, were killed instantly. Both were 26 years old.
The front seat passenger, Paul Weingart, 26, was airlifted to the hospital in serious condition.
Police say they are still investigating what led to the fatal crash.
A spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation says new pavement markings were installed on that part of Fort Salonga Road last year. She says state engineers will now review the police report on the accident to determine if additional measures are needed.
