Two Garden City High School students were winners at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.
Amy Xiao, a junior, won first place in biochemistry for her project that looked at ways to better treat specific kinds of cancer with drugs already on the market.
"I didn't expect myself to come this far, so I think this just proves that as long as we set our minds to do anything, we can do it," Xiao says.
James Nagler, a senior, earned second place in a technology category for glasses he designed that could help the visually impaired.
"There's a lot of new technology out there that I think can significantly benefit people and a lot of people think it's very far away, but I think it's closer than people anticipate," Nagler says.
Nagler also received a scholarship for his work from the Office of Naval Research.
