A fire gutted a West Islip home on Leopold Avenue Saturday night.
Fire officials say it took about 90 minutes to extinguish the flames.
There is no word yet on what may have started the fire or if anyone was hurt.
Firefighters also battled another house fire in Farmingdale.
Fire chief Ryan Tortoso of the Farmingdale Fire Department says this one started at a backyard barbecue and then spread to an awning and then to the rest of the home.
Tortoso says by the time crews got to the scene, the front door was left open and the fire spread inside of the house. He says they knocked as much fire as they could before the interior stairs were compromised and collapsed. At that point, he said they had to "go on the defensive."
There is no word yet if anyone was injured in that fire.
