Police say two people were killed in a single-car crash in Brentwood early this morning.

Officers responded to the scene on Grand Boulevard after a 911 caller reported that a vehicle crashed into a pole at 12:09 a.m. Upon arrival, police say the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

Two officers attempted to rescue the victims from the burning car, but the intensity of the fire prevented them from reaching them.

Witness Tim Parker says he will never forget the sights and sounds of the fiery crash that happened right outside of his home. He says he ran to grab his garden hose and sprayed down the car, all the while listening to a woman's voice slowly fade away. He says the flames were so intense that no one could get close enough to save the couple.

"To hear another human being's voice crying for help is the worst feeling for anyone to go through," Parker says.

The two occupants of the vehicle, which had California plates, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
