A 17-year-old construction worker has died after falling at least 30 feet in Freeport.
Police say Alberto Mejia-Montoya, of Hempstead, and a co-worker fell from their makeshift scaffolding Monday afternoon while working on a home under construction on South Bayview Avenue.
Authorities say Mejia-Montoya fractured his skull when his head hit the ground. He has since died from his injuries.
The second victim reportedly hurt his shoulder.
Freeport Village officials tell News 12 that the company, AMSJ Construction, has permits to build the house at the site. However, the company did not file a permit for the scaffolding.
Officials say the company has been cited for the violation.
Neighbor Rick D'Anna says after working 21 years in construction in Manhattan, he believes the crew did not take the proper safety precautions.
