Two teenagers were rushed to the hospital after police say they were stabbed and slashed outside a school in Kingsbridge during dismissal Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators say two hooded suspects were seen on surveillance video scanning the crowd of students before attacking two teen boys near Sedgwick Avenue around 3 p.m. Police tell News 12 a 16-year-old was slashed in the neck, and a 14-year-old was stabbed in the abdomen. Both victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.
The attack unfolded as dozens of students were heading home, leaving the area flooded with police tape and shaken neighbors. Blood-stained towels and medical supplies could still be seen on the sidewalk hours after the incident, showing how chaotic the scene became as people rushed to help the victims.
“It’s pretty scary right in front of the high school,” said Kingsbridge resident Izaiah Zeek Barrow. “These kids are pretty young. They’re fairly good kids. I hate to hear that this happened.”
Another neighbor, Jason Lopez, said he was disturbed by how violent the attack was. “It’s crazy how they would resort to stabbing, of all things,” he said.
Police say the two suspects were last seen running from the area and remain on the loose. The NYPD is asking anyone with information or additional video of the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
