Several dogs and cats were killed in a blaze in Stony Brook. The fire broke out at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Blydenburgh Lane. Ten pets were inside the home at the time of the blaze, but they were not able to be saved. The home was owned by Dori Scofield, the founder of the Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue Shelter. Scofield says she is thankful that her children or husband were not home at the time of the blaze. She says she is shocked at the destruction from the fire and is devastated that her dog, who she says was her best friend, is gone.Fire officials say they believe the fire started on an electrical line in the basement.
