A Fourth of July party turned deadly when two armed robbers burst into the host?s home Saturday morning, killing him and wounding two women.
On Friday, 48-year-old Livingston Kirton invited some friends to a Fourth of July party at his ground-floor apartment on Adams Avenue.
Suffolk police say at around 2:30 a.m., while few of the remaining guests played cards, two masked men crashed through the door and demanded cash before they opened fire.
Detective Jack Fitzpatrick says that one of the female guests was shot in the arm, and another in the abdomen. Kirton, who came to their rescue, was hit in the chest and died at the scene.
Friends say Kirton was a beloved member of the West Indian community, and he got married just three weeks ago.
Kirton leaves behind a wife and two children. Suffolk police did not release the identities of the two women who were wounded. They were taken to a local hospital, where they underwent surgery.
Suffolk police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
