A spending bill expected to pass this week will include an extension of the Zadroga Act.
The Zadroga Act is expected to be extended until 2090, essentially providing permanent health care for those sick from illnesses connected to their time at Ground Zero.
The act will provide first responders and their families with more than $3 billion for health care and more than $4 billion in victim compensation.
Seaford Rep. Peter King says he is pleased with the breakthrough.
"Advancing the Zadroga bill was a long, hard fight for the brave cops, firefighters and construction workers who put their lives and health on the line at Ground Zero," says King. "They deserve the very best medical care and treatment and I was proud to be part of this successful effort."
