A 7-year-old Suffolk girl who battled leukemia is on a mission to help out other children with cancer.
Nikolina Johannssen told her mother after she went into remission that she wanted to give her toys to other kids with cancer. She and her family came up with the idea for Nikolina's Attic, a charity garage sale.
The money raised is used to buy new toys for Stony Brook Hospital's Child Life program. Last year, the family's event raised $8,000 and this year, they're looking to double the total.
Johannssen's mother says the family didn't even have to ask for donations this year. She says she drove around the Island picking up items for two months.
The sale is being held at Lake Grove Village Hall through Monday.
