Police say a teen was seriously hurt after being stabbed behind an elementary school in Port Jefferson Station.
According to police, the 16-year-old was stabbed multiple times on the soccer field behind Boyle Road Elementary School.
The incident happened during a fight with three other teens around 8 p.m. Monday.
The teen was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police say the other teens took off on Bedford Avenue.
On Tuesday morning, parents got a call from Dr. Jennifer Quinn, the Comesewogue school superintendent, to make them aware of what had happened. It has left many of them feeling worried.
"I am really concerned, I have my 8-year-old that goes here and I live right behind here, so it's frustrating to hear all this," says Kevin Edge.
But some say despite initial worries at the news, they still feel safe and that their kids will be protected.
"We were assured that everything was under control, it made it a little better, I know the school is very safe," says Christina Giuffrida.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the stabbing to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
