The New York Yankees announced that they will honor CC Sabathia by retiring his No. 52 jersey and by dedicating a plaque to him at Monument Park.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Sept. 26, before the Yankees play the Baltimore Orioles.

Sabathia becomes the 24th Yankee player or manager to have their number retired.

He was signed on Dec. 18, 2008, and helped lead the Yankees to a World Series championship in his first season with the club.

During his 11 seasons as a Yankee, he ranks fourth in strikeouts, seventh in starts, 10th in wins and 11th in innings pitched in franchise history.

Sabathia was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025. He also played with Cleveland and Milwaukee.

The Yankees released the following statement on his impact to the community:

"Regarded as a clubhouse leader and exceptional teammate, Sabathia’s goodwill and generosity was mirrored in his profound engagement with the community. In 2008, he and his wife, Amber, established the ‘PitCCh In’ Foundation, which remains committed to the care and needs of inner-city children, helping to raise their self-esteem through sports activity and education. Regular programming includes field renovations, All-Star baseball clinics, the Nathan Berhel Scholarship at Vallejo High School, backpack giveaways, mentorship programs and a holiday caravan at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club."
