A Wyandanch middle school principal, who was once the focus of grade-fixing allegations, has been arrested for aggravated harassment.
Team 12 Investigates has learned that Dr. Shannon Burton, principal of Milton L. Olive Middle School, has been reassigned to other duties following his arrest. This is his second reassignment in less than one year.
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Burton was arrested for allegedly harassing a woman and her boyfriend over the phone on July 25.
The victim claims he called her about 15 more times over the next day and made her feel “alarmed, threatened and in fear for her physical safety.”
Burton was just reinstated as principal in early July after being reassigned to work from home since last September due to allegations of grade-fixing.
Burton’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
“The district is conducting an internal investigation regarding this matter,” said Dr. Laurence Aronstein, Wyandanch’s interim superintendent. “Given this is a confidential matter of personnel, we will not be providing further comment at this time.”
The Wyandanch School District spent the last several months investigating Burton and two other top administrators for allegedly making last-minute changes to students’ final grades. Each educator has since been reinstated to their roles. The district has not publicly released the findings of its investigation.
At the most recent Board of Education meeting, community members said they were promised a full report following that investigation into grade-fixing and demanded answers.
