A Wyandanch man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to killing his girlfriend's 17-month-old boy.
Michael Taylor, 34, was left alone with his girlfriend's son, Jailyn Price, in an apartment they shared on Straight Path in Wyandanch when the incident occurred, police said.
"The mother was at the Laundromat doing laundry at about 1 a.m. when her son seemed to be giving Mr. Taylor a problem going to sleep," Suffolk Police Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick said. "That angered Mr. Taylor and he punched the baby at least twice in the abdomen."
Price was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he died Tuesday afternoon. Prosecutors said Price sustained broken ribs, a lacerated liver and other internal injuries.
Despite entering a not guilty plea to the first-degree manslaughter charge, police said Taylor has confessed to the fatal beating. The defendant's lawyer, meanwhile, said his client denied the charges.
Taylor was ordered held without bail.Related Information:
