Parishioners at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Wyandanch celebrated their first Christmas at the church since it was rebuilt after last year?s fire.
Last December, just five days after Christmas, a man who volunteered at the church set fire to its outreach center. The fire spread to the rectory and nearly swallowed everything else.
?It's wonderful to have Christmas in the church and listen to Father Bill this morning talk about all of the good things that have followed such a tragedy,? Helen Byrne, of Deer Park, says.
As a result of the fire, the church?s outreach services operate out of a trailer, which means there hasn?t been as much room to keep donations. However, the church is managing with what it has. In the meantime, the congregation is raising funds to build a new outreach center.
