The Public Advocate’s annual “Worst Landlord” list is out - and Barry Singer has earned the top spot.

With nearly 2,000 open Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) violations spread across seven buildings, tenants say they are left to deal with terrible living conditions.

A four-story building in Brooklyn, located at 509 Hinsdale St., has 273 HPD violations reported in the past year.

"[Singer] doesn’t fix anything," said resident Robert Thompson, who has lived in the building for 13 years. "The only thing we get good here is hot water and heat. He just forgets about you."

Thompson shared a video of mice caught in their apartment, a recurring issue that has him feeling out of place in his own apartment.

The public advocate’s office highlights the importance of the HPD’s Code Enforcement team in bringing these violations to light.

Inspectors visit apartments, document issues and compile the data that is used in the annual report.
