A road in West Hempstead is finally getting a traffic light after the death of two students.
Seventh grader Tomas Molina was fatally struck while crossing Woodfield Road in October 2022.
County Legislator John Giuffre began advocating for the traffic light within 24 hours of the accident.
"Young Tomas tragically died on Oct. 1, which was a Sunday afternoon," Giuffre says. "Monday, I was at the Legislature, one of my constituents emailed me and I agreed to go with him that night to the scene of the accident to see what happened."
A year earlier, 17-year-old Amanda Arguinzoni died in a crash on the same road. Police say speed was a factor in that accident.

An informational meeting on the light will be held Thursday at American Legion Hall 2-33 at 7 p.m.
