The man who barricaded himself in his Woodbury home back in November after allegedly abusing a child was arraigned Friday on a grand jury indictment.
Adrees Omar, 25, is accused of having sexual intercourse with a teen victim since she was 13. After 10 months of the alleged abuse, the 14-year-old victim fled Omar’s house naked following a violent incident, prosecutors say. They say Omar then barricaded himself inside the home for nearly eight hours.
“This defendant allegedly preyed upon a vulnerable child for months in some of the worst ways imaginable,” said Nassau District Attorney Anne Donnelly “We must protect our children from these predators.”
The prosecution alleges that Omar sexually assaulted the victim on separate occasions, as well as sliced her with scissors, and put his hands on her neck and nose so she couldn’t breathe.
Omar is facing 24 charges including rape, criminal sex act and unlawful imprisonment.
“We entered a plea of not guilty to all the charges, we are still awaiting discovery, there is a lot of discovery that has not been turned over yet, specifically DNA evidence,” said attorney Kenneth B. Russo.
Nassau County police are asking any other potential victims of Omar’s to come forward.
Omar remains behind bars. If convicted, he faces 25 years in prison and is due back in court on Feb. 7.
