A Suffolk woman says she's the latest victim of the so-called "knockout game," the violent spree of attacks targeting innocent people who are minding their own business.
The woman, a 51-year-old Guatemalan immigrant, asked News 12 Long Island to conceal her identity because she says she's scared that her family will be targeted. She spoke with News 12 through a translator.
The woman says she was smashed in the face and knocked to the ground Friday by four teenagers as she walked home from the supermarket. She says it happened at the corner of MacArthur Avenue and Doolittle Street in Brentwood.
The woman suffered broken ribs and a bruised skull. She was hospitalized for treatment and released.
An eyewitness corroborated the victim's story to police, and was able to provide a description of the attackers to investigators.
The alleged attack comes after a Rockville Centre man was the target of a similar knockout attack in Manhattan. Kyle Rogers, 23, suffered a broken jaw when he was knocked unconscious last Sunday.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-220-TIPS.
