A woman was stabbed in a Wal-Mart parking lot last night in the latest robbery to occur on Long Island.

Police say a 42-year-old woman was confronted by a man as she put packages in her car at around 10:30 p.m. yesterday at Wal-Mart in East Meadow. The woman handed over her pocketbook, but police say the man then stabbed her in the arm.

Authorities say there was another robbery just three weeks ago on Oct. 29 at the Stop & Shop next door. In that case, a woman was also putting her groceries in the car when she had her purse stolen.

There were two other recent purse snatchings. One incident happened five days ago in the Sunrise Mall parking lot in Massapequa. The other happened last night on Somerset Avenue in Garden City.

Police say they don't think the crimes are connected. Long Islanders are being reminded not to leave stores with their arms full of packages. Shoppers should also have car keys in hand and check parking lots for suspicious people before leaving a store.
