Police are looking for whoever apparently took thousands of dollars worth of rings from a store fitting room at a Bay Shore mall earlier this week.
Megan Miner says she believes someone picked up the rings she left behind in a dressing room while shopping with her infant. It happened at the American Eagle store in the Westfield Mall on Tuesday.
"I knew as I was doing it, it wasn't a smart thing to do, but I figured I'm putting it in the open, there's no way I'll forget it," says Miner.
Miner says she took off her wedding band, engagement ring and a band with her five children's birthstones. She put them on a bench in the dressing room so that they wouldn't get stuck on the clothes she way trying on, she says.
Once she realized she'd left the rings behind, Miner says an American Eagle associate went back to the dressing room with her to help her look -- but she says they were nowhere to be found.
Miner, who's been married since 2010, says she called the police.
Suffolk police tell News 12 that they are investigating the incident and it's being classified as grand larceny.
"I just want them back, that's all I want. That's all that's important to me," Miner says.
She says she reached out to American Eagle's corporate headquarters, but did not get any answers. And she posted her story Facebook, where it's been shared thousands of times. She's hoping someone will come forward.
American Eagle Outfitters released a statement saying, "American Eagle Outfitters is cooperating with the authorities and cannot discuss further due to the ongoing investigation."
