Woman loses finger in Long Island Expressway hit-and-run with big rig
Three women driving home from church were clipped by a big rig that took off following the crash.
Diane Cunningham, her mother Lorane Byrd and niece Kisha King were headed west on the LIE at exit 62 in Holtsville when they say an 18-wheeler truck darted into their lane without warning and clipped their 2005 Ford Freestyle.
Byrd lost her right index finger in the crash. Cunningham broke her foot, and both she and Kisha suffered cuts and bruises.
The truck driver stopped momentarily, but then fled the scene.
"He stopped, he got out and he got back in his truck and he pulled off, who could do something like that?" asks King.
Suffolk Detective Lt. John Rowan says he's issued an alert for the truck and its driver.
"Currently, the 6th Precinct Crime Section is investigating this as a leaving the scene of an accident with injuries," says Rowan
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has seen the tractor-trailer to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
