An East Northport woman has been found guilty of stealing from a fundraiser that aimed to help a Huntington teenager who has cerebral palsy.

Maureen Myles, 62, was convicted on grand larceny charges Friday for stealing $30,000 from donors at a Northport benefit dinner that she helped to set up.

The fundraiser was collecting money for a wheelchair-accessible van for the teenager. Myles was an organizer at the time for a group called the Trinity Program, a Huntington social services agency that was planning its annual Drive for Love fundraiser.

The teen's mother testified during the bench trial that after the fundraiser, Myles was no longer the friendly person she had appeared to be before.

Myles was accused of fleeing to Florida with the proceeds.

She faces up to seven years behind bars when she's sentenced in September.

In a separate case in 2004, Myles was convicted of grand larceny and scheme to defraud after she bought cruise tickets using credit card numbers that she obtained from her job.
