Police have charged a Huntington Station woman with DWI following a crash that seriously injured an 89-year-old pedestrian.
According to police, Daryl Richardson was driving on West Jericho Turnpike at approximately 4:05 p.m. Monday when she attempted to pull into the McDonald's located on Jericho Turnpike.
Police say Richardson, 55, made a left turn in front of an eastbound 2009 Chevrolet, causing a collision. The Chevrolet veered off the roadway and struck 89-year-old Louis Anania, of Dix Hills, who was leaving the restaurant at the time of the incident.
Anania, who was temporarily pinned between the car and front of the building, was transported to Huntington Hospital, where he was treated for an open leg fracture and a broken clavicle.
The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Huntington Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Richardson was taken to Huntington Hospital and treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Police say she told them she lives at the Abbey Motel, located about a quarter-mile from the scene of the crash. The motel manager confirmed she lived there for a few months, but moved out last week. Prosecutors say she is homeless, but was seen at the property before Monday's incident.
Witnesses at the motel say they saw Richardson drinking two large bottles of wine in the hours prior to the crash. In court Tuesday, prosecutors alleged that she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17 when she caused the crash.
Richardson pleaded not guilty to the charges and is being held on $25,000 bail.
