According to detectives, David Muscat, 22, of Garden City, was employed as a stock room clerk for six years at the store located on Old Country Road.
Muscat is accused of stealing merchandise, hiding it with the trash and then removing the items while putting them in his car in the parking lot.
According to police, the defendant also opened an eBay account to sell items and gained a cash return.
William Sonoma is claiming a loss of $453,444 worth of merchandise over a three-year period.
