The West Orange councilwoman and mayoral candidate under investigation for missing campaign signs says she received permission to take them.

Local business owner Jarrett Seltzer had made signs urging voters to reject incumbent Mayor Susan McCartney and Councilwoman/mayoral candidate Tammy Williams.

The signs had Apple AirTags, and when they went missing, some were pinged at Williams' home.

In a statement, Williams says Seltzer originally placed the sign without the building owner's permission - and that the building owner gave her permission to remove it.

Seltzer told News 12 he isn't hearing the same.

"This alleged owner that she apparently called said that she had the right to remove my signs," Seltzer said. "What's fascinating is the West Orange Police Department gave this alleged owner four days to produce a single document that showed that he was actually the property owner, and in four days he couldn't do it."

Williams says she and the property owner are reviewing their legal options, and turned the signs over to police.
